Home | Fishing the North Island | Diving the West Coast | Pig Hunting in Tokoroa
My first passion for the outdoor life was pig hunting. I can still
remember as 4 year youngster pleading to my father to take me along with him and
my older brothers on the hunt.
It wasn't until I was 9 years old I was blooded into the hunting scene and from
that day on I was hooked.
Pig hunting for me was not only about bringing home the bacon, but about the
thrill of the kill, watching the
young dogs working with old dogs and racing to that distress squeal.
I've hunted in many locations around the north Island of New Zealand but spent
most of my time hunting in
Tokoroa Forestry. I have a lot of great memories hunting in Tokoroa even
the one of getting chase around the bush by patrol ranger.
Tragically in 22nd May 1997 I encountered a work accident which resulted in
losing 80 percent of my right leg which forced me to give the sport away.
